US sanctions Seyyeds' Revolutionary Guards in Iran


Elements of the Revolutionary Guard are already penalized under an order that took effect last year but Thursday's announcement by the State Department covers the entire organization along with 12 other private companies and military units from China, North and South Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. ... The sanctions, which are valid for two years, bar any U.S. aid, contracts and arms sales or other defense transfers to any of the identified entities. It was not immediately clear if the U.S. government does business with any of them.

Inflation almost 30% now in Iran (officially) - maskhareh

US group granted rare approval to set up office in Iran

The United States has granted rare approval to a US-based group to establish an office in Iran, the State Department said Thursday, stressing however that US policy towards the Islamic republic has not changed. ... The American Iranian Council (AIC), a research and policy think tank devoted to improving ties between the two arch enemies, was given a license to establish a presence in Tehran by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), officials said. ... 'We understand that a license has been granted to the American-Iranian Council but would refer you to the Office of Foreign Asset Control at the Treasury Department for any information regarding OFAC licenses,' the office of State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
